Viral respiratory season runs from October through the end of May, typically peaking between December and February.

We track hospitalizations because it shows the severity of the illness in our community.

2025-2026 season trends

Flu hospitalizations increased significantly from the previous season, while COVID-19 hospitalizations remained relatively the same between October 1, 2025 and April 1, 2026, there were 337 respiratory-related hospitalizations in Mesa County, including:

  • 161 flu-related hospitalizations
  • 83 COVID-19-related hospitalizations
  • 93 RSV-related hospitalizations

COVID-19 Rapid tests available through retail stores and medical provider offices. Treatment is available and helps to prevent more severe disease in some populations. Talk to your medical provider.
Flu Flu tests available at medical provider offices. Treatment is available and helps to prevent more severe disease in some populations.  Talk to your medical provider.
RSV RSV tests available at medical provider offices. There is no treatment for RSV beyond supportive care.
